Poetry, Prose – Written, Spoken

I’ve been a poet for as long as I can remember. At the age of eight I wrote my first poem and poetry got me hooked ever since. At first I was hesitant when it came to prose as I was unsure whether I could be a good prose writer. That changed in 2012, during a short story course in England I was encouraged by the king of flash fiction to pursue my prose path. Two years later my first book baby was born. Another six years later the second book followed. Five years later that said second book won a bronze award. Seems like it somehow worked out. I have been writing in English since forever. Not really, but once I learned the language and got a hold of it, let myself fall into it, it was my go-to language to express emotions. Only way later did I start writing prose in my mother tongue as well. Unfortunately, there is no social icon for Substack, but I also publish articles, quotes and notes there, so feel free to visit me there as well.

If you’d like to hear me recite my poems and texts, I recommend you visit me on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube.

There is a difference between reading a text by yourself or watching it being performed or listening to it with your eyes closed. I’m a writer. But sometimes I also like to record audios and combine them with beautiful visuals or speak social critique directly, more or less face to face to the audience. There’s a power to it. To a poem being spoken, the words lingering in the air between author and audience. To a text being read by the writer and perceived by the listeners. I also participate in poetry slams or read my texts at reading events.

You can watch some excerpts from the book reading on YouTube.

It was partly in English, partly in German as I was reading from the published English version as well as from the German manuscript.

In 2023 I had my very first book reading in the city – and exactly that part of the city – I grew up in. Dreaming of big stages, it just felt right to have my first reading where my journey as a writer started out. It was shortly after my birthday and I was beyond happy to share my art with the audience. It definitely won’t be my last reading.

Connected to Live Loud & Suffer in Silence I wanted some of the quotes to be printed on shirts and other merch to motivate people and give them a little reminder. So, NGraphix who also designed the book cover also took the quotes and put them into beautiful designs. 25 % of my earnings – just like with every purchase of the book – will be donated to local mental health institutions.

You can get the merch in my SpreadShop.
